Self-Exclusion Features at Regulated Online Sportsbooks

Regulated U.S. online sportsbooks do not all handle self-exclusion the same way. Some shut down one state account. Others block every product and every state in which the operator does business.

The practical questions are not what self-exclusion means. They are where the control is located, how long the available terms are, whether the exclusion follows you across state lines, what happens to your balance, and whether casino, fantasy, rewards, retail properties, and marketing are caught in the same net.

SportsIntensity checked the current responsible-gaming pages, support centers, and account terms published by major regulated U.S. sportsbook operators. The results below were last verified in July 2026. State law can override an operator’s standard procedure, so the options displayed inside your account remain controlling.

The catch: an operator-level exclusion is not automatically a statewide exclusion, and a statewide exclusion is not automatically national.

Self-Exclusion Tools at Major Regulated U.S. Sportsbooks

These are the controls and procedures the operators themselves currently publish.

DraftKings

Where to find it: Open the DraftKings Sportsbook app, tap the profile photo, select Responsible Gaming, and choose Self-Exclusion under Breaks.

Published sportsbook terms: One year or five years, subject to the options permitted in the bettor’s jurisdiction.

Coverage: One of the broadest operator-level exclusions. DraftKings states that an exclusion selected through any location applies everywhere and across all DraftKings products. That includes Sportsbook, Casino, and Fantasy Sports.

During the exclusion: Login, deposits, sports wagers, casino play, fantasy entries, and direct marketing are blocked. Funds remain in the account, but withdrawal requires monitored assistance from customer support.

Reinstatement: DraftKings will not shorten an active exclusion. Its published policy says the account becomes available again after the selected term expires.

FanDuel

Where to find it: Open the Responsible Gaming or Responsible Play menu and select Self-Exclusion beneath the Timeout option.

Published terms: FanDuel lists self-exclusion options of one, three, or five years. Its shorter break tool is separate and permits timeouts between three and 365 days, subject to jurisdiction.

Coverage: Operator-level exclusion locks the customer out of FanDuel products. State-administered enrollment may extend the exclusion to every regulated betting operator and physical wagering location covered by that state’s program.

Marketing and support: FanDuel says self-exclusion stops direct marketing. It also emails excluded customers information about Kindbridge Behavioral Health and BetBlocker.

Reinstatement: FanDuel directs excluded or suspended customers to customer support for account-reactivation questions rather than promising automatic restoration.

BetMGM

Where to find it: Go to My Account, select Settings, and open Responsible Gaming. BetMGM separates player limits, timeouts, service closure, and self-exclusion.

Published terms: The available exclusion term is displayed inside the account and may depend on the jurisdiction. BetMGM’s public self-exclusion page describes the option as exclusion from all online gaming.

Coverage: BetMGM’s consolidated account is important. The company states that self-excluding in one state prevents access to BetMGM services in every other state.

Related controls: Timeouts, suspended status, restrictions, and responsible-gaming limits also carry across the states in which the customer uses the consolidated BetMGM account.

Product-specific closure: BetMGM distinguishes full self-exclusion from a service-closure agreement, which can be applied separately to Sports, Casino, or Poker.

Caesars Sportsbook

Where to find it: Log in, open My Account, select Responsible Gaming, and choose Self-Exclusion. Caesars also accepts state-specific forms and, in some jurisdictions, mailed applications.

Published terms: Options depend heavily on the state. New Jersey customers can select one or five years online, with permanent state exclusion requiring an in-person filing. Other jurisdictions publish different terms.

Coverage: Caesars has the broadest published corporate policy among major U.S. operators. A person placed on a state-sponsored exclusion list where Caesars operates may be added to Caesars’ universal exclusion list.

What universal exclusion can cover: Caesars Sportsbook, Caesars online casino platforms, Caesars Rewards privileges, promotional communications, and Caesars-owned or operated physical gaming properties.

Reinstatement: State rules control, but Caesars may require a written reinstatement request after the minimum term. Some published state procedures include an additional review period and require that the customer did not breach the exclusion.

Fanatics Sportsbook

Where to find it: Fanatics provides self-service controls through its Responsible Gaming section. Customer support is also available through the app or at [email protected].

Published terms: The minimum operator-level self-exclusion is one year. Fanatics separately offers timeouts lasting between three and 365 days.

Coverage: The customer can exclude from Fanatics Betting & Gaming. In states offering a statewide option, the process may also exclude the customer from every regulated operator covered by that state program.

During the exclusion: Login, wagering, deposits, and account changes are blocked. A customer who needs to withdraw funds must contact Fanatics support.

Additional tool: Fanatics partners with BetBlocker, a free service that blocks gambling websites and apps without requiring registration.

bet365

Where to find it: Use the bet365 Responsible Gaming section and select its Self-Exclusion page. The operator also links customers to the applicable state-administered program.

Published terms: bet365’s Illinois house rules list six months, one year, two years, five years, or indefinite exclusion.

State warning: bet365 publishes jurisdiction-specific responsible-gaming terms. The Illinois choices should not be assumed to apply unchanged in every state.

Operator versus statewide exclusion: The bet365 program prevents gambling with bet365. The separate Illinois statewide program blocks all regulated sports wagering in Illinois and also excludes the participant from Illinois casino properties.

What to verify before confirming: Whether the selected exclusion affects bet365 accounts in other U.S. jurisdictions, how outstanding bets are settled, and whether reinstatement is automatic or requires a request.

Hard Rock Bet

Where to find it: Hard Rock Bet places self-exclusion with its other in-app responsible-gambling controls, including deposit limits, wager limits, session limits, reminders, and timeouts.

Published effect: Self-exclusion makes the Hard Rock Bet account inaccessible for the full exclusion period. Its general responsible-gaming page describes the tool as an extended account closure that blocks both app and desktop access.

State-specific terms: In New Jersey, Hard Rock Bet states that Internet gaming self-exclusion lasts one or five years, cannot be revoked during the selected period, and blocks access to all New Jersey-licensed Internet gaming.

Marketing: Hard Rock Bet says proactive marketing communications are suspended during self-exclusion.

Coverage warning: State programs and operator-level Hard Rock exclusions do not have identical reach. Customers should confirm whether the restriction covers Hard Rock accounts in other states and any connected casino products.

BetRivers

Where to find it: Open the BetRivers account menu and select Responsible Gaming. BetRivers provides an operator-level exclusion and links to the broader regulator-run program available in each state.

Coverage: This is where careful reading matters. BetRivers’ current state terms repeatedly describe its account-level tool as exclusion from only the BetRivers service in that particular state.

What that means: An exclusion from Michigan BetRivers, for example, should not be assumed to block BetRivers in Pennsylvania or another operator in Michigan.

Broader option: Bettors who need every licensed sportsbook blocked should use the relevant statewide program rather than relying only on the BetRivers account control.

Available terms: Terms and procedures vary by jurisdiction. New Jersey’s BetRivers player-protection terms reference one-year and five-year state exclusion choices.

Which Sportsbook Exclusions Travel Across State Lines?

The operator’s account architecture can matter as much as the state program.

DraftKings: Yes

DraftKings explicitly says that once a customer self-excludes in one location, the exclusion applies everywhere.

It also applies across DraftKings Sportsbook, Casino, and Fantasy products.

BetMGM: Yes

BetMGM says a self-exclusion entered in one state prevents access to BetMGM services in every other state.

The same consolidated-account approach applies to timeouts and responsible-gaming limits.

Caesars: Potentially Much Broader

Caesars’ universal-exclusion policy can extend a state-sponsored exclusion across the company’s online gambling platforms and physical gaming properties.

That may also affect Caesars Rewards privileges, hotels, promotions, and other parts of the Caesars portfolio.

Fanatics: Operator-Wide, State Option Varies

Fanatics offers exclusion from Fanatics Betting & Gaming and, in some jurisdictions, a separate route into the statewide program.

The published page does not promise that every operator-level selection automatically covers all other licensed sportsbooks.

FanDuel: Check the Route Selected

FanDuel offers its own account exclusion, while state enrollment may block all regulated platforms and physical locations covered by the jurisdiction.

Do not confuse the FanDuel control with enrollment in the state’s broader program.

BetRivers: Often State-Specific

BetRivers’ published terms in several jurisdictions describe the operator tool as excluding the customer only from that state’s BetRivers service.

Bettors using BetRivers in multiple states should not rely on one state account setting to close every account.

Operator Exclusion or Statewide Exclusion?

Use the narrower operator tool only when narrow coverage is actually what you intend.

📱

Operator-Level Exclusion

Usually activated inside the sportsbook account or through its customer-support team.

It may cover one state account, the operator’s entire interstate account, all products under the brand, or the operator’s wider corporate group.

The operator’s published terms determine the actual reach.

🏛️

Statewide Exclusion

Administered by the gaming commission, gaming control board, lottery, or another state authority.

It generally covers every regulated online sportsbook licensed under that program, not merely the sportsbook through which the application was submitted.

Casino, retail, racing, lottery, and fantasy coverage varies by state.

🗺️

Multi-State Bettors

A statewide list usually stops at the state border. A bettor who lives near a border, travels for work, or uses sportsbook accounts in several states may need to enroll separately in each jurisdiction.

An operator-wide restriction from DraftKings, BetMGM, or Caesars can close some of those gaps, but it does not block competing operators everywhere.

Strongest practical approach: use the statewide program in every relevant jurisdiction and apply operator-level exclusion to every interstate sportsbook account.

The Operator Differences That Actually Matter

The exclusion button may look similar, but the consequences behind it are not.

Broadest Interstate Coverage

DraftKings and BetMGM explicitly state that operator-level exclusions follow the customer across the states in which their accounts operate.

Broadest Corporate Consequences

Caesars may extend state-sponsored exclusion across its online products, rewards program, and physical gaming portfolio.

Most Obvious State-Only Limitation

BetRivers repeatedly states in its jurisdictional terms that its operator tool may apply only to BetRivers in the named state.

Widest Published Term Selection

bet365’s Illinois terms publish choices of six months, one year, two years, five years, or indefinite exclusion.

Direct Treatment and Blocking Resources

FanDuel sends excluded customers information about Kindbridge and BetBlocker. Fanatics also maintains a direct partnership with BetBlocker.

Support-Assisted Withdrawals

DraftKings and Fanatics expressly state that excluded customers must contact support to withdraw an existing cash balance.

Check These Account Terms Before Confirming

Do not delay an exclusion that is urgently needed, but know what the sportsbook will do after the account is locked.

🎟️

Open Bets

Find out whether unsettled wagers remain live, are voided, are refunded, or continue to settlement without cashout access.

💵

Cash Balance

Determine whether funds are paid automatically or require identity checks and a support-assisted withdrawal.

🎁

Rewards and Promotional Funds

Bonus bets, reward points, casino credits, and promotional balances may expire or be forfeited under the operator’s terms.

📨

Marketing Removal

Confirm whether sportsbook email, text messages, push notifications, VIP contact, and affiliated-brand marketing will stop.

🧩

Connected Products

Check whether the same exclusion covers online casino, poker, fantasy contests, horse racing, rewards accounts, and retail properties.

🔓

Reinstatement

Determine whether access returns automatically or requires a written request, support review, regulator approval, waiting period, or proof that the exclusion was not breached.

Regulated Online Sportsbook Self-Exclusion FAQs

These answers concern the actual operator controls offered by regulated U.S. online sportsbooks.

Which sportsbooks apply self-exclusion across every state?

DraftKings states that its exclusion applies everywhere. BetMGM states that self-exclusion in one state blocks BetMGM access in every other state. Caesars may go further by applying state-sponsored exclusion across its wider gaming portfolio.

Which sportsbook exclusion appears to be state-specific?

BetRivers’ published state terms describe its operator-level tool as exclusion only from the BetRivers service in that particular jurisdiction. A separate statewide program is necessary to block competing regulated sportsbooks.

Can I exclude from sports betting without excluding from online casino games?

Sometimes. BetMGM publishes product-specific service closure for Sports, Casino, and Poker, but its full self-exclusion is broader. State programs and other operators may combine products. Read the confirmation screen before submitting.

Which operators publish the available exclusion periods?

DraftKings publishes one-year and five-year sportsbook options. FanDuel publishes one, three, and five years. Fanatics publishes a minimum of one year. bet365’s Illinois terms list six months, one year, two years, five years, and indefinite exclusion. Caesars, Hard Rock Bet, and BetRivers publish different choices by state.

Can an operator exclusion affect casino hotels and rewards?

Yes. Caesars’ universal-exclusion policy can affect Caesars Sportsbook, online gaming, Caesars Rewards, promotional privileges, and physical Caesars gaming properties. State-specific Caesars notices warn customers that the consequences may extend beyond the sportsbook account.

Which operators offer gambling-site blocking tools?

Fanatics partners directly with BetBlocker. FanDuel says it sends self-excluded customers links to BetBlocker and Kindbridge Behavioral Health.

Can I withdraw money while self-excluded?

Procedures vary. DraftKings and Fanatics expressly require the excluded customer to contact support for withdrawal assistance. Other operators may return funds automatically or require additional verification.

Does deleting the sportsbook app activate self-exclusion?

No. Self-exclusion must be confirmed through the operator’s Responsible Gaming controls, customer-support process, or the applicable regulator-run program.

Does one operator exclusion block competing sportsbooks?

Usually not. It blocks competing sportsbooks only when the request also enrolls the customer in a statewide program or another regulator-administered list covering every licensee.

Can a sportsbook shorten an exclusion after it begins?

DraftKings explicitly says it cannot shorten the selected term. Other operators and state programs generally treat the minimum term as binding, but reinstatement procedures differ.

Use the Tool That Closes the Actual Accounts

A self-exclusion is only as strong as the accounts, states, and products it reaches.

DraftKings and BetMGM provide unusually clear interstate operator coverage. Caesars can impose consequences across an entire gambling and hospitality portfolio. FanDuel and Fanatics connect customers with additional blocking or treatment resources. BetRivers demonstrates why an exclusion button inside one state account should never be mistaken for a nationwide barrier.

Check every sportsbook account individually. Then check the regulator-run program in every state where betting access remains possible. The sportsbook’s responsible-gaming page tells you what the operator will block. The state program tells you whether the competing books are blocked too.

Do not settle for an exclusion that leaves the next app fully operational.
